This vintage linen postcard captures the windswept sand dunes along the old Ocean Highway, on the coastal stretch between Ocean City, Maryland and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Ocean City sits on a barrier island in Worcester County, where the Atlantic shoreline has long drawn travelers to its beaches , and this quiet scene of grassy dunes reflects the natural beauty that made the journey itself part of the trip.
From roughly the 1930s through the 1940s, "linen" postcards reached their golden age, prized for their textured finish and warm, saturated colors. This card was published by Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose work survives today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. This edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL, bringing back the rich tones the original artists intended.
