This vintage linen postcard captures soldiers servicing artillery along Company Street at the Ordnance Training Center in Aberdeen, Maryland. The scene belongs to Aberdeen Proving Ground, the U.S. Army installation in Harford County established in 1917 as a center for weapons and ordnance testing and training , a role that placed this small Maryland community at the heart of the nation's military preparedness.
From the 1930s through the 1940s, American "linen" postcards reached their golden age, printed on textured card stock that gave their colors a soft, painterly glow. This edition comes from the work of Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose images are preserved today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. It has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL to bring back its original warmth and detail.
