About This Historic Map

Drawn from an elevated bird's-eye perspective, this map presents South Coventry in the 1870s, when the area was shaped by its textile mills, church steeples, country roads, and rolling wooded hills. The view sweeps across the valley from above, showing the compact village clustered along its main streets while forested ridges rise up on every side and open farmland stretches toward the horizon.

Notable features shown on the map include the central pond, the prominent church steeple overlooking the village, and the row of mill and factory vignettes printed along the base of the sheet, along with many of the historic roads and homesteads that shaped life around South Coventry in the 19th century.

For anyone whose family roots run through the quiet hills of eastern Connecticut, this map is more than a historic view. It captures the steepled village beside its pond, the mills that gave the town its livelihood, and the country lanes climbing into the woods - the memories that keep people connected to South Coventry.
