About Springville, New York
Springville Academy opened in 1830 and became the first high school in Erie County. In 1867 it was renamed Griffith Institute to honor a donor, Archibald Griffith. The village itself was incorporated in 1834. It was first called Fiddler's Green.
Football coach Glenn Pop Warner called Springville home. In 1866 and 1867, the county fair took place at the Dygert Farm on Elk Street. Jim Thorpe later trained on that farm.
