About Strausstown, Pennsylvania
Strausstown was laid out in 1840 by John Strauss, a local landowner, and named after him. He had lived on a farm west of the village. Once lots were laid out, Strauss moved into the center of town, where he died.
Joseph Boltz built Strausstown's first house in 1835, on a lot from the Batteiger tract. He still lived there in 1886. Jacob and Joseph Klahr began the second house that year and finished it in 1836. By 1886, it was part of the Centre Hotel.
