This vintage linen postcard captures military tanks at Fort George G. Meade, the storied U.S. Army installation in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Established during World War I and named for Major General George G. Meade, the Union commander at the Battle of Gettysburg, the post grew into a major training and mobilization center in the decades that followed.
From roughly the 1930s through the 1940s, American travelers mailed millions of "linen" postcards, prized for their textured finish and saturated colors. This edition comes from the Tichnor Brothers Collection of Boston, one of the era's most prolific publishers. It has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL to bring back its original vibrancy.
