About Tedrow, Ohio
Tedrow is a community of 168 people in Dover Township, Fulton County, a few miles northwest of Wauseon, the county seat. The village was first known as Spring Hill, and that is the name shown on a plat map drawn in 1858.
The village got its present name from its post office, which honored Mr. Tedrow, its postmaster, and was first kept at his place several miles to the south. When the office moved to Spring Hill, it could not take the village's name, because another Ohio post office already used it. The office kept the name Tedrow, and the village came to be called Tedrow too.
- A campground at the springBrush Creek, a branch of the Tiffin River, starts near Tedrow, fed by a spring. Native Americans on their seasonal hunting trips favored the spot for its clean water and stopped there to camp and rest. That spring is why the village was first called Spring Hill.
- Post office, 1839 to 1917The Tedrow post office opened in 1839. It moved from Mr. Tedrow's place to the old Schnall Farm and from there into Spring Hill, where it served the village until it closed in 1917.
