About Templeton, Pennsylvania
Abraham Parkinson was the first settler on the land where Templeton now stands, but he left. Peter Brice, a Black pioneer, settled there next in 1804. For many years, he was the only Black resident in this area. By about 1873, at least sixty-five Black families lived here, though most later moved to the cities.
In 1906, Mr. Gault bought the land and laid out the town of Templeton. He sold lots at reasonable prices and drew steady homemakers. He also built a brick industry on a large bed of clay nearby. His Templeton Limestone Company supplied large amounts of limestone to furnaces. It was the first business of its kind in Armstrong County.
