This restored linen-era postcard captures The Armory in Elkton, Maryland, the seat of Cecil County at the head of the Chesapeake Bay. Set in the Maryland-Pennsylvania-Delaware borderlands, Elkton spent the early decades of the twentieth century as the "Elopement Capital of the East," drawing couples who came to take advantage of the state's lenient marriage laws before nearby states tightened theirs.
From roughly the 1930s through the 1940s, American publishers produced vivid "linen" postcards, named for the textured, fabric-like paper that gave their colors a distinctive softness and glow. This edition comes from the renowned Tichnor Brothers Collection, published by Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, and has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL to bring back its original warmth and detail.
