This restored vintage postcard captures The Waldorf Restaurant in Waldorf, Maryland, a roadside dining scene from the linen-era heyday of automobile travel. Sitting in Charles County along the busy routes connecting Washington, D.C. with the lower reaches of Southern Maryland, Waldorf grew up around the railroad and the road, making it a natural stop for travelers in search of a good meal.
From roughly the 1930s through the 1940s, American "linen" postcards reached their golden age, prized for their textured paper and warm, saturated colors. This card was originally published by Tichnor Bros. Inc., Boston, whose work is preserved today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. This edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL, bringing the scene back to vivid life.
