About the Town of Waterloo, Grant County, Wisconsin
Waterloo was one of the original towns organized in 1849. Its earliest settler was Daniel R. Burt, who came in 1837. He built the pioneer mill in the western part of the county. Burt lived here more than twenty years and served in the Wisconsin legislature before moving to Dubuque.
Before Grant County had any territorial road, Daniel Burt had already cut his own. From his mill on the Grant River in Waterloo, one road ran eleven miles to Cassville. Others reached Potosi, Beetown and Hurricane Corners.
