This restored linen postcard captures the Tuckaway Manor Motel along Route 40 in Aberdeen, Maryland, a roadside stop from the era when automobile travel was reshaping the American journey. Route 40 follows part of the historic National Road corridor, one of the country's earliest major highways, and motels like this one welcomed the growing tide of motorists making their way across Harford County.
From roughly the 1930s through the 1940s, "linen" postcards reached their golden age, prized for their soft textured paper stock and vivid, saturated colors. This card was published by Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose work is preserved today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. This edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL, bringing back the warmth and detail of the original.
