About Vaughn, Washington

The town and its bay were named for W. D. Vaughn. He crossed the plains in 1851 and took up a homestead on the bay. Illness cost him his rights to the land, but his name stayed. On the way west he kept his party supplied with game, and pioneers called him Nimrod.

Between the 1870s and the 1920s, a little fleet of steamboats met the travel needs of the Case Inlet towns. In those years Vaughn ranked as an important port on the Key Peninsula.
