About Vernon Center, Minnesota
From the History of the Minnesota Valley: "The first school was taught by Mrs. Clarissa Henderson, during the summer of 1857, at the residence of herself and husband just across the line in Vernon Center, although all the scholars belonged to Shelby; there were but eight in all. The town now has seven school-houses."
