This vintage linen postcard offers a tranquil "View along the Wicomico River" in Salisbury, Maryland, the seat of Wicomico County on the state's Eastern Shore. The river for which the county is named winds through the heart of town and connects Salisbury to the broader waters of the Chesapeake Bay, a link that made the city an important shipping and commercial hub on the Delmarva Peninsula.
From roughly the 1930s through the 1940s, "linen" postcards reached their golden age, prized for their soft textured surfaces and vivid, saturated colors. This card was published by Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose work survives today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. This edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL to bring back its original warmth and detail.
