This vintage linen postcard offers a sweeping View of Calvert City, the industrial complex that was home to the Calvert Distilling Company in Baltimore, Maryland , billed on the card as Maryland's largest distillery. Captured circa 1930–1945, the scene reflects the era just after the end of national Prohibition in 1933, when legal distilling roared back to life and Baltimore took its place among America's busy industrial cities.
From the 1930s through the 1950s, American "linen" postcards reached their golden age, prized for their textured finish and saturated, idealized colors. This image comes from the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection, produced by Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston. This edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL, bringing back the brightness and detail that time had faded.
