About Waverly, Illinois
From the 1878 History of Morgan County, Illinois: "Mr. James D. B. Salter, a young man in school when the town was platted, wrote to his father requesting him, if the town had not been christened, to give it the name of Waverly, in honor of the Waverly novels, for which he had an intense admiration. His father complied with his request, and hence the name."
