About Wedron, Illinois
Edward Belrose owned the land where Wedron now stands. When the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy built its branch from Aurora to Streator, he platted a tract into town lots and sold them. That made him the village's original promoter. In 1878 he moved to Wedron and opened a general store.
By 1916 St. Peter sand was quarried around Wedron on the Fox River. This sand was almost pure silica and of the highest quality for making glass. It lay in bluffs along the rail lines, so it was loaded straight from the pits into the cars.
