About Wessington, South Dakota
From the Chicago and North Western Railway: "Wessington, Beadle County, South Dakota, was named from a nearby range of hills that had been a landmark for the early explorers and travellers for many years before the railroad reached this spot. These hills were named by and for a teamster of that name, who, under Colonel W. H. Nobles, in 1857 laid out a road to the Missouri River."
