Ocean City was founded as a beach resort in 1875, and by the era of this card it had grown into one of the Mid-Atlantic's favorite oceanfront getaways, its boardwalk and hotels drawing vacationers to the edge of the Atlantic in Worcester County.

From roughly 1930 to 1945, American "linen" postcards reached their golden age , printed on textured, fabric-like stock with bright, saturated inks that gave everyday scenes a warm, almost dreamlike glow. This view comes from the catalog of Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose work survives today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection.
