This vintage postcard welcomes you to the White House Motel along U.S. Route 301, just two miles north of the Potomac River Bridge in Newburg, Maryland. A roadside stop in rural Charles County, the scene captures the era when Route 301 served as a key north–south corridor on the East Coast, carrying travelers toward and across the Potomac on their way between the Northeast and points south.
From the 1930s through the 1940s, "linen" postcards were a beloved American art form, printed on textured stock with bright, saturated colors that gave everyday places a warm, inviting glow. This image comes from the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection of Boston, and this edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL to bring back its original charm.
