About Willoughby, Ohio
Willoughby is a Lake County city along the Chagrin River, with a 2020 population of 23,959. Its downtown history includes an early medical college and the public service of Cora Gaines Carrel, while Erie Street, River Street, and Euclid Avenue meet near City Hall.
- From Chagrin to WilloughbyFounded as the village of Chagrin in 1798, the community took Dr. Westel Willoughby's name in 1834.
- Medical College LegacyWilloughby Medical College opened in 1834, trained 160 physicians in anatomy, chemistry, and surgery, and closed in 1847.
