About Woodbury, Tennessee

Woodbury is a town of 2,703 people near the middle of Cannon County, set in the valley where the East Fork of the Stones River flows toward the Cumberland. It has been the county seat and the county's main town from the start. No railroad ever reached Woodbury, so it stayed cut off from the major routes of travel until the original Memphis-to-Bristol Highway was completed.

  • Seat of Cannon CountyWoodbury has held Cannon County's government for as long as the county has existed. The Cannon County Courthouse joined the National Register in 1992, and a weekly Cruise-In still brings people to the town square.
  • A wartime USO centerDuring World War II, the Second Army's training maneuvers spread across parts of Cannon County. Woodbury's residents answered by opening a USO center for the soldiers.
  • The Good Ole DaysEach spring Woodbury holds The Good Ole Days, its best-known festival. The Cannon County Fair follows every May at the Cannon County Fairgrounds, and local shops close out the year with the Cannon County Christmas Business Open House.
