About Woodmere, New York
Woodmere is an unincorporated hamlet and census-designated place in Nassau County's Town of Hempstead. Its population was 18,669 in 2020. It is part of the Long Island grouping called the Five Towns, alongside Lawrence, Cedarhurst, Inwood, and the communities collectively known as the Hewletts.
- Unincorporated Since 1910Proposals to incorporate Woodmere as a village failed in 1910 and 1978, leaving it under the Town of Hempstead's government.
- Land and WaterWoodmere covers 2.7 square miles, including 2.6 square miles of land and 0.1 square mile of water.
- Rail and Bus ServiceWoodmere station serves the Long Island Rail Road's Far Rockaway Branch, while Nassau Inter-County Express routes n31 and n32 pass through the community.
- Two School DistrictsWoodmere is divided between the Hewlett-Woodmere School District and the Lawrence Public Schools district.
- Volunteer Fire ServiceThe Woodmere Volunteer Fire Department has approximately 75 members providing fire, rescue, and advanced life support services.
