About Woxall, Pennsylvania
Woxall was first called Kroppestettel, Pennsylvania Dutch for Crowtown, and later Mechanicsville. In 1888 the village got a post office, but another Pennsylvania town already had that name. Residents chose Noxall, a word they saw on a box of soap at the village store. Postal officials misread the first letter and approved Woxall.
The village grew up near the Old Goshenhoppen Church, built in 1744. Lutheran and Reformed congregations both worshiped there. Its general store was known for selling fine clocks, furniture, barrel molasses and quilting thread.
