About Yanceyville, North Carolina

Yanceyville began as the village of Caswell Court House. During the 1830s, residents built a new brick courthouse and incorporated the old settlement under its present name.

Yanceyville began as Caswell Court House. Commissioners laid it out near the center of Caswell County after Person County split away in 1791. By 1810 the village had one store, a hat shop, two taverns and about fifteen homes. It took the name Yanceyville in 1833.

  • Odd town government storyYanceyville had trouble keeping its town charter. Lawmakers had to grant it again in 1877 and 1885. It was repealed in 1899, restored in 1905 and repealed once more in 1915. The town finally reorganized and incorporated for good in 1986.
