Real geography. Art worth displaying.
This map was created using accurate cartographic data and authoritative geographic sources, including the U.S. Geological Survey and the Census Bureau. The map brings together terrain, waterways, roads, and building detail. The majority of the streets are labeled, houses are accurately depicted, and the topography is derived from government sources. Combining local data with carefully composed color and shading leads to this beautifully detailed Zoar artwork for your wall.
Rather than simply showing street outlines, we’ve included as many of the street names as we could reasonably fit on the map while keeping their names legible. Zoom in on the high resolution preview to see exactly what’s on the map. We truly set out to create a statement piece for anyone who loves Zoar. So whether it’s for you, or a gift for someone you love, we hope this map of Zoar brings back fond memories.
About Zoar, Ohio
Zoar is a village in Tuscarawas County founded in 1817 by German religious dissenters known as the Society of Separatists of Zoar. The community adopted shared ownership in 1819, and the Society continued until 1898. Its garden, cemetery, street plan, and historic buildings preserve evidence of this communal experiment.
- Canal LaborMembers completed part of the Ohio and Erie Canal in 1827, earning money to repay the community's land debt.
- Zoar GardenTravelers described the flower-filled garden as early as 1829; it remains on Main Street between Third and Fourth streets.
- Meeting HouseThe Meeting House, built in 1853 at Fifth and Main, assigned its right entrance to men and its left entrance to women.
- God's AcreEarly members used no headstones in Zoar Cemetery, once called God's Acre, because they believed all people were equal in death.
- Town HallThe Society built Zoar Town Hall on Main Street in 1887, eleven years before the communal organization ended.
