About Arrey, New Mexico

Several Hispanic families founded the town in 1890 under the name Bonito. They had made an agreement with a cattle agent to settle the land. A post office opened in 1901. Its first postmaster, Urbano Arrey, gave the community his name. Descendants of those first homesteaders still live here.
