About Bippus, Indiana

The town took its name from George Jacob Bippus. He was a key figure in bringing the railroad to the site. People had already settled there for some time before the town was laid out and platted in 1885.

Joseph Sell started a small store at Bippus before the village was laid out. For several years he sold goods and also worked at his trade of wagon making. Jacob Coblentz later laid out lots for the village on the C. & A. Railroad.
