About Boothwyn, Pennsylvania

Boothwyn is a community of 4,968 people in Upper Chichester Township, Delaware County, about 2 miles northwest of Marcus Hook. Before it had that name it was McCaysville, a village that grew up where Chichester Avenue meets Meetinghouse Road, and it served as the heart of business and community life for the whole township.

William McCay Sr. and his family lived in a house that also held the village school, post office and church. That house, later called the McCay-Pierce House, was the main residence of Boothwyn Farms, an estate of 350 acres. Around 1892 the estate began to be split up and sold, and in the early 1900s the growing neighborhood took the estate's name, Boothwyn.

  • Named for Edwin BoothBooth's Corner, a Pennsylvania Amish market and a local favorite, stands within Boothwyn. It was built at a corner of the land Edwin Booth once owned, and both the market and the town carry his name.
  • Home of Bill HaleyBill Haley, who helped invent rock and roll with Bill Haley & His Comets, lived in Boothwyn for many years.
  • St. John Fisher since 1971St. John Fisher Church was founded in Boothwyn in 1971. Holy Savior School, open since 1917, then became the new parish's school and took the name Holy Savior-St. John Fisher. In 2012 it merged with St. Joseph Catholic School in Aston to form Holy Family Regional Catholic School.
