About Brockton, Montana

Brockton is a community of 358 people in Roosevelt County, on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation. It began as a stop on the railroad, and its first post office opened in 1904. In 1913 the reservation was opened to settlers who weren't Native, and the town boomed.

  • A railroad town by 1886The St. Paul, Minneapolis & Manitoba Railway reached Brockton with its transcontinental line by 1886. To keep its engines supplied and serviced, the company put up a roundhouse, a coal chute, a water tank, section houses and a water treatment plant here. Amtrak's Empire Builder still rolls through town on BNSF tracks today, though it doesn't stop. The closest stop is Wolf Point, 35 miles west.
  • A town from 1952 to 2018Brockton was incorporated as a town in 1952. It gave up its town government on January 23, 2018, and the Census Bureau now counts it as a census-designated place.
  • Home of the WarriorsThe Brockton School District teaches local students from kindergarten through 12th grade, and the teams at Brockton High School play as the Warriors.
