About Buford, Ohio
Buford is a community of 306 people in central Clay Township, in the southwestern part of Highland County. Robert Lindsley laid out the village in August 1834, and the name he picked for it is still the one it carries today.
Lindsley chose the name to honor his wife's family. Her father, Colonel Buford, was a Kentuckian who held large tracts of land around the new village, so the town took her maiden name.
- A country doctor in 1873John Duvall Ridings worked as a teacher and as a doctor who made his rounds by horse and buggy. In 1873 he and his wife Lydia left Decatur, Illinois, and settled in Buford.
- Its own post officeBuford once had a post office of its own, with the ZIP code 45110. Mail now comes through Sardinia, 5 miles to the south, under the ZIP code 45171.
