About Cade Lakes, Texas

Cade Lakes is a community of 507 people in western Burleson County, west of Caldwell, the county seat. Homes here ring three small reservoirs on Second Davidson Creek, and the Census Bureau first listed the place as a census-designated place in 2020.

The Handbook of Texas calls the lakeside settlement Shiloh. Anglo-American families began moving into this part of the county in the late 1830s, and a Baptist church built in 1869 seems to have drawn them together into a community.

  • Shiloh Baptist Church, 1869The Shiloh community appears to have formed around Shiloh Baptist Church, built in 1869 on the creek's west bank. The church stood in the heart of the blackland prairie, beside the Old San Antonio Road.
  • Settled in the late 1830sAnglo-American settlers reached the country around the future lakes in the late 1830s, when western Burleson County was still open prairie crossed by the Old San Antonio Road.
  • East and West Cade lakesHomes in the community line East and West Cade lakes, two of three small reservoirs built on Second Davidson Creek. The creek flows east into Davidson Creek, part of the Brazos River watershed.
