Real geography. Art worth displaying.
This map was created using accurate cartographic data and authoritative geographic sources, including the U.S. Geological Survey and the Census Bureau. The map brings together terrain, waterways, roads, and building detail. The majority of the streets are labeled, houses are accurately depicted, and the topography is derived from government sources. Combining local data with carefully composed color and shading leads to this beautifully detailed China artwork for your wall.
Rather than simply showing street outlines, we’ve included as many of the street names as we could reasonably fit on the map while keeping their names legible. Zoom in on the high resolution preview to see exactly what’s on the map. We truly set out to create a statement piece for anyone who loves China. So whether it’s for you, or a gift for someone you love, we hope this map of China brings back fond memories.
About China, Texas
China is a city in northwestern Jefferson County, along U.S. Highway 90 about ten miles west of Beaumont. Its name developed from China Grove, a railroad water stop set among chinaberry trees. The 2020 census recorded 1,260 residents.
- Railroad OriginsThe Texas and New Orleans Railroad reached the area in 1860, establishing a water stop called China Grove.
- Depot RelocatedAfter the older depot burned in 1906, railroad operations moved to Nashland, while the depot retained the China name.
- Rice and OilRice farming and warehouses supported the community before the South China oilfield, discovered in 1939, encouraged further growth.
- City IncorporationResidents voted 118 to 88 for incorporation in 1971.
- Wartime Farm LaborDuring World War II, German prisoners from Camp Huntsville helped maintain local rice paddies while area farmers served in the military.
