About Clyattville, Georgia
The settlement was called Forest Grove from 1837 until 1848. That year its post office moved to James M. Clyatt's store, on the stage road from Troupville, Georgia, to Bellville, Florida. When the Valdosta Railway came through in the late 1890s, it missed the old village, so the community moved to the rail crossing.
Early Clyattville lived on farming, and residents traveled by buggy or wagon. Dr. Quillian was the first person in town to own a car. In the early 1950s, the Owens-Illinois company opened a paper mill and a bag plant there.
