About Constableville, New York
Constableville was named for William Constable. Part of the great 4,000,000-acre Macomb Purchase was transferred to him. In 1819 his son, who shared his name, built Constable Hall as his manor house. The mansion was a high-columned Georgian Colonial home of graystone.
Constableville honors William Constable, the son of an early landowner. Around 1796 it became the earliest settlement in the town of West Turin. Constable Hall, a restored limestone mansion from the 1800s, still holds its original furnishings. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
- The Welsh roots of the villageA Welsh Calvinistic Methodist church was formed in Constableville on March 13, 1848. Its members worshiped in the Welsh language.
