About West Turin, New York
West Turin is a Lewis County town on the Tug Hill Plateau, with the Black River marking its eastern boundary. First settled around 1796 near Constableville, it took shape as a separate town in 1830. Its communities include Collinsville, Michigan Mills, Mohawk Hill, and part of Lyons Falls, while the 2020 population was 1,692.
- Town FormationWest Turin was created from Turin in 1830, then lost territory when Osceola formed in 1844 and Montague in 1850.
- Highmarket's ReturnHighmarket separated from West Turin in 1852, but the former town returned when it was disbanded in 1973.
- Land and WaterThe town covers 102.4 square miles, including 102.1 square miles of land and 0.3 square miles of water.
