About County Center, Virginia
County Center is a community of 3,787 people in southeastern Prince William County, bordered by Dale City on its south side and Lake Ridge on its east side. Airport Creek drains the community and runs east into the Occoquan Reservoir, whose waters reach the tidal Potomac River. The county's McCoart Government Center stands here, off Prince William Parkway.
Prince William's office staff had outgrown the county property inside the city of Manassas, so the county gave those workers a new home, a government center set apart from the old courthouse. It honors the Neabsco District supervisor who left office for health reasons in 1982 and died soon afterward. On March 29, 2002, the developers who owned the land formed the Prince William County Center Owners' Association, a nonprofit that serves residents from its clubhouse on Wermuth Way.
- Home of the Potomac NationalsG. Richard Pfitzner Stadium, beside the government center, was the home field of the Potomac Nationals, a Minor League Baseball team, from 1984 until 2019. That year the team moved to Fredericksburg and became the Fredericksburg Nationals. Locals call the ballpark the "Pfitz," and it still holds community events such as outdoor summer movies.
- Steel from the World Trade CenterThe Prince William County Liberty Memorial holds four steel bars that fell from the World Trade Center in the attacks of September 11, 2001. Its plaque carries the names of the 22 people from the Prince William County area who died that day.
- Old Hickory Golf ClubThe western part of Old Hickory Golf Club lies within County Center. Tim Freeland, a golf course architect, designed it.
