About Cushing, Maine

The Olson House in Cushing appears in Andrew Wyeth's famous 1948 work, Christina's World. It was also the model for the farm home in Days of Heaven, a 1978 film. Today the Farnsworth Art Museum of Rockland runs the house.

Scots and Irish settlers came here in 1733, recruited by General Samuel Waldo. Wars with the French drove many away until peace came in 1759. The town was incorporated in 1789 and named for Thomas Cushing, lieutenant governor of Massachusetts.
