About Cutten, California

Cutten is an unincorporated community of 3,223 people in Humboldt County, sitting 200 feet above sea level about 2.5 miles from downtown Eureka, toward the south-southeast. It takes its name from David Page Cutten and his family, who had been leading figures in the county's industry and politics since the early 1850s.

  • The Cutten-McDonald TractThe area once went by an early name, the Cutten-McDonald Tract. The shorter name, Cutten, honors the Cutten family alone, and the community is now counted as part of Greater Eureka.
  • A post office by 1930A post office opened in Cutten in 1930, according to California Place Names, while Wikipedia dates it to 1929. The 95534 ZIP Code still belongs only to that post office, so homes in the community use the Eureka ZIP Code, 95503.
  • 3,223 people in 2020The 2020 census counted 3,223 people in Cutten, up from 3,108 in 2010. The community covers 1.3 square miles, all of it land.
