About Decatur, Georgia
Decatur is the seat of DeKalb County and a compact city within the Atlanta metropolitan area. Incorporated in 1823 and named for naval officer Stephen Decatur, it developed where two Native American trails met. The 2020 census counted 24,928 residents across 4.2 square miles.
- Historic CrossroadsThe community took shape where the Sandtown and Shallowford trails intersected, and a county courthouse site was selected there in 1822.
