About East Galesburg, Illinois
The Santa Fe railway created East Galesburg. When a party drove out to view the proposed line, there was not a house or factory in sight at the future station site. The whole village, and nearly all the industries in the Court Creek valley, were built up after the railroad came.
In 1890 D. V. Purington and Asa A. Matteson founded a business in East Galesburg. In 1892 the St. Louis Paving Brick Company built a second plant there. In 1893 the companies merged as the Purington Paving Brick Company, with five hundred thousand dollars in capital stock.
- The village's own newspaperThe East Galesburg Tribune was founded in 1892. Karl R. Haggenjos was both its editor and publisher. The weekly paper came out every Saturday, printed on the presses of the Galesburg Plaindealer.
