About Eveline, Michigan
In 1855, not long before he died, James Strang started a settlement on Holy Island. Bedwin, another early place in the township, was named for Robert Bedwin, a storekeeper. It had a post office of its own from 1884 to 1887.
Rock Elm grew up beside the southern arm of Pine Lake, known today as Lake Charlevoix. A rural post office opened there in 1876 with Hiram Hipp as its first postmaster. It closed ten years later, in 1886.
