About Fairbury, Illinois

From the Illinois A Descriptive and Historical Guide: "FAIRBURY, 55.5 m. (686 alt., 2,310 pop.), essentially an agricultural trading center, has a local coal mine in operation."

From the Pontiac Daily Leader: "Caleb Patton won the competition over the other farmers by offering the railroad half of the building lots in his new town. Octave Chanute, the railroad construction engineer, wisely accepted Caleb Patton's offer. To this day, the TP&W railroad still owns several lots in Fairbury."
