About Faleniu, American Samoa

In July 1921, more than 340 Samoans met at Faleniu to protest chiefs who had praised the Navy government. Police later found the village empty and armed men in the woods. A Navy posse arrested 17 chiefs. Sixteen were convicted, lost their titles and got 7.5 to 12 years.

In April 1910, the Mormon mission asked to split Mapusaga off from Faleniu as its own village. Faleniu objected, since the school's students were only staying for a time and Mapusaga had no chiefs. The request was denied, and Mapusaga stayed part of Faleniu.
