About Fowlerton, Texas

Fowlerton is named for the Fowler Brothers Land Company. Early in the 20th century, James and Charles Fowler set out to build a town on 100,000 acres. They advertised farmland around the townsite and called themselves colonizers. A farmer could buy a 160 acre plot plus a town lot on monthly payments.

By 1911 the San Antonio, Uvalde and Gulf Railway had reached Fowlerton, and the town held 1,200 people. It peaked at 2,000 residents in 1914. Then droughts and low crop prices hit in 1917, and lawsuits accused the Fowlers of false advertising. By 1925 only 600 people remained, and the town never recovered.
