About Fox Farm-College, Wyoming
Fox Farm-College is a community of 3,876 people in Laramie County, part of the Cheyenne metropolitan area. It covers 3.5 square miles, all of it land, and its public schools belong to Laramie County School District #1. Laramie County Community College got its start here on donated cattle pasture after a county vote in 1968.
- Voters said yes in 1968On May 21, 1968, Laramie County voters approved a plan to open a community college in Cheyenne. To help the plan succeed, the Arp family and Doran Lummis gave the new board of trustees 168 acres of cattle pasture they owned, and the board was free to use the land however it chose.
- An order left unreadNot everyone wanted the college. Its opponents sought a cease and desist order, and it reached trustee J. O. Reed at the groundbreaking ceremony just as he was getting ready to climb onto the backhoe. Reed took the letter, pushed it into his pocket without reading it, and broke ground anyway.
