About Fox Lake Hills, Illinois

Fox Lake Hills is an unincorporated community of 2,684 people in Lake Villa Township, in the northwestern corner of Lake County. It sits on the eastern shore of Fox Lake, with Grant Township to the southwest and Antioch Township to the northwest.

The community grew up as a subdivision in the years after World War II. By December 1958 the Antioch News counted it among the fastest growing in a township that the paper described as booming.

  • Over 70 homes by 1958In December 1958 more than 200 people already lived in Fox Lake Hills, in over 70 occupied houses. The neighborhood was so new that some families still had no telephone and were waiting for a cable to be finished. Residents had just formed a Ladies' Auxiliary, and one of its first plans was a Christmas party for the children.
  • On Columbia and Stanton baysThe community's shoreline takes in parts of two of Fox Lake's bays, Columbia Bay and Stanton Bay. Water covers 0.54 of its 1.81 square miles, and the other 1.27 square miles are land.
