About Fredericksburg, Indiana
Fredericksburg was laid out in 1815 by Frederick Royse and named in his honor. The first town stood across the river from today's town. The Blue River flooded it again and again. So John Horner laid out 51 new lots along the New Albany and Vincennes Turnpike, on the south side of the river.
Thomas Polson was the first settler in the township. He came in 1805 and lived near the place where old Fredericksburg was later mapped out. His cabin stood close to the Vincennes and Ohio Falls trail. Passing Native American bands, soldiers and adventurers kept him from getting lonesome.
- A first in townJames McClung built the town's first brick building. In those days it was a sight worth traveling some distance to see. He was also the first postmaster.
