About Gilboa, New York

Gilboa took its name from Mount Gilboa, a mountain in the Bible. A cotton mill drove the early economy until a flood destroyed it in 1869. In 1926 Schoharie Creek was dammed to make the Schoharie Reservoir. The old settlement was torn down and flooded, and a new one was built north of the water.
